Blue Book Guide

About The Official Helicopter Blue Book®

The Blue Book covers resale pricing, resale trends, Perspectives, and technical specifications for over 200 civilian helicopter models.  An index of what models are included and what data is available for each can be found here

Blue Book values are updated as soon as we begin to see changes in the published values.  In addition to on-demand updates, HV$ reviews every model covered in the Blue Book each quarter to ensure the most up to date information is available.

This Guide is intended to give general instruction on navigation and a basic understanding of the Blue Book contents and tools.  Our FAQ can provide more in-depth answers to commonly asked questions.  Of course, our staff is always available to assist with any questions regarding the use of The Official Helicopter Blue Book®.

Perspectives: A Helicopter Resale History® compiles The Official Helicopter Blue Book® pricing data from 1979 to present. Each data point combines all model years to show the helicopter models’ average resale prices for the first calendar quarter of each year. No adjustments have been made for inflation: 1979 values are given in 1979 dollars, 1989 values in 1989 dollars, and so on to present. All values are given in US dollars.

Specs

Specification pages detail the performance and physical specifications in English and metric forms of measurement and contain over 100 "facts" about each helicopter. This data has been developed from a variety of sources.  While we believe this information to be as accurate and correct as possible, we cannot assume responsibility or liability for any business transaction based on the use of this data. Any technical data presented is subject to change and it is not intended to substitute for any regulatory agency’s or helicopter manufacturer's appropriately authorized flight or maintenance manuals.

Components

To access click on the Components tab.  The components tab list the intervals of major drivetrain components and Hourly Maintenance Costs (HMC).

Hourly Maintenance Cost (HMC) is the expense of running a helicopter’s major components for one hour. The HMC includes the parts and labor required for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and inspections that are performed every twenty-five flight hours or greater. Maintenance intervals less than twenty-five flight hours are not considered.

HMCs are determined by computing the cost of each major-drive train component’s overhaul and retirement interval, with its associated labor costs, then dividing that sum by its allowable flight hours. The resulting per-hour costs are then totaled. HMCs are given as a range due to the variation of parts costs, transportation and labor charges, and discounts. Operators that do not employ in-house certificated maintenance technicians will likely have a higher HMC.
